The fourth annual James Burton International Guitar Festival was held at the Municipal Auditorium in the guitar legend’s birthplace of Shreveport, La., from Aug. 21 through Aug. 22. The festival raises funds for the James Burton Foundation, whose charitable work includes purchasing guitars for schools. This year the festival’s theme was A Tribute to Elvis and featured performances by guitar heavyweights including Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Doyle Dykes, Steve Lukather, Albert Lee and Junior Brown, all of whom sounded superb thanks to a state-of-the-art Electro-Voice sound system from Gulf Coast Sound (Rayne , La.). — September 2009
